The first Absa Top 5 Olive Oil Awards were announced during a lunch at Clos Malverne restaurant on the 28th August 2013. Selected from the top 20 oils of the SA olive awards through blind tasting by a panel of 8 experts, these oils are the best olive oils in South Africa for 2013.
Porterville have two olive oils in the top 5 which is quite an achievement. Interestingly all the winning oils were in the intense category. Consumers should familiarise themselves with the taste profile of intense olive oils before purchasing an oil which might not be to their taste. There are several medium and delicate oils in the top 20 which might suit certain palates better.
