Tucked away in rolling valleys, just an hour out of Cape Town in a South Eastern direction, lies the secret gem of the Bot River wine route – Gabriëlskloof. In 2001 general manager and viticulturist, Barry Anderson, passed on his passion about the potential for the land to Bernhard Heyns, and from then there was no looking back for Gabriëlskloof. After carefully matching cultivars with the terroir, the first vines and olive trees were planted in 2002.
The Gabriëlskloof team is united in its obsession with making the best olive oil in South Africa, and from winning a Gold award for our first pressing in 2009 and every year since, in 2013 we had the honour of being awarded a very special accolade by the South African Olive Oil Association – our oil was chosen as one of the TOP 5 oils in the country.
The Estate’s olive groves benefit from the cool Mediterranean climate of the region, producing small, flavour-intense fruit. A selection of Coratina, Frantoio and Leccino trees are grown on sunny slopes. The olives are picked by hand into small crates, and then gently cold pressed; resulting in a boutique-quality blended extra virgin olive oil. Gabriëlskloof only produces Extra Virgin Olive oil.
