The Company
The Greenleaf Olive Company was established with a vision to provide South African consumers with the opportunity to access, at affordable prices, Extra Virgin Olive Oil that meets the highest international standards.
Our family-owned-and-run olive estate is situated near the beautiful village of Malgas, near Swellendam in the Western Cape, along the tranquil banks of the Breede River. This area is blessed with a temperate Mediterranean climate, proving exceptional growing conditions for olives. One of the largest individual olive groves in Southern Africa, you will find rolling hectares of olive trees, comprising of nine different cultivars and further plantings are underway.
From grove to table, Greenleaf’s olives are carefully grown and nurtured on our farm. Olive oil is cold-extracted within a few hours of harvest to ensure a product of the highest quality. We continue our endeavour to bring innovative technology and alternative farming and processing methods to South Africa, ensuring quality, continuity and affordability.
The Products
The ground has been prepared to produce, here in South Africa, Olive Oil of a purity, clarity, texture and taste to rival the very best from the countries that have traditionally set the benchmark. In 2004 The Greenleaf Olive Company purchased a farm near Swellendam in the Western Cape. Here both soil and climate are ideal for the development of a modern olive grove. Nine cultivars were planted: Coratina, Barnea, Frantoio, Leccino, Picual, Koroneiki, Arbequina, Arbesona and Hojiblanca. Of these, only three were previously available in South Africa. The other six cultivars were imported having been selected for their positive characteristics and high yield.
Cultivars are specifically blended into our two brands according to taste profiles and intensities. These are Saint Sebastian Bay Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Greenleaf Extra Virgin Olive Oil. We also carry a high quality balsamic vinegar, Saint Sebastian Bay Balsamic Vinegar to accompany our range. In addition to this, Greenleaf is contracted to a number of private labels, supplying according to clients’ specific needs.
