The opening of 95 At Morgenster

With the opening of 95 At Morgenster, the partnership between chef patron Giorgio Nava and Giulio Bertrand, owner of Morgenster Estate, brings to Somerset West a selection of the delicious dishes from 95 Keerom and Carne restaurants in Cape Town which made Giorgio Nava famous.

The restaurant offers authentic Milanese cuisine, prepared from the highest quality local and imported ingredients paired with the finest of wines. The setting, next to Morgenster’s beautiful tasting room, offers diners tranquil views of a reed lined dam and towards the Helderberg.

95 At Morgenster currently offers lunches on Tuesday – Sunday, 12.00 – 15.30; dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings The restaurant accommodates 100 diners in the verandah section and a further 48 in the inside dining room.

Décor is modern, with a grapevine over the bar area.

Food at 95 At Morgenster presents Italian fare with a secret – freshness. Nava says that as little as possible is done to the raw ingredients so that what diners see on the plate is what they taste, unpretentious and delicious. The menu contains firm favourites like seasonal salads, fresh fish, a full list of raw and cooked carpaccio and classic Italian meat creations. Desserts like the liquid centre white and dark chocolate fondant round off a delicious experience.

The striking artwork on the walls of 95 At Morgenster is part of Giulio Bertrand’s collection of art from prominent South African artists such as Diane Victor, Penny Siopis and Eleanor Esmonde-White.

The winelist features Morgenster wines almost exclusively and highlights the farm’s vintage strategy. It allows guests to order all the bottles of wine that are sold and served from the Tasting Room, including the older Estate vintages. A selection of Morgenster wines can also be sampled by the glass or in pre-selected flights of vintages. Ends.

As with the freshest of  ingredients used to create the menu, Morgenster’s own award winning  extra virgin olive oil is used in the dishes.
