Tulbagh is a popular destination for its wines, but not many people know that Tulbagh boasts an array of reputable olive producers such as Groote Vallei, Waverly Hills, Saronsberg and Oakhurst, among others. Visitors to the area would enjoy making a point of tasting the local olive oils.

The unofficial olive route of Tulbagh has a new epicentre as of a few weeks ago. Oakhurst has opened a most magnificent olive tasting centre. In terms of venues dedicated to tasting olives and olive oil, there is nothing like it in the country. There are many lovely wine tasting facilities that also offer olive or olive oil tasting but nothing of this scale dedicated to olives.
The centre opened officially on the 4th of Novermber 2015 with a grand party attended by the who’s who of Tulbagh and the olive industry. Lovely local wines and delicious snacks (including olive oil of course) were accompanied by live music and much socialising. The MP for the Witzenberg region, James Vos, gave a speech outlining the optimistic future of the area before cutting the ribbon to officially open the centre. Pieter du Toit gave a speech in which he thanked his staff and Tulbagh neighbours for their support.
A tasting centre this beautiful and substantial will be of benefit to all in Tulbagh as it hopefully draws people to the area. The centre will also be used for events and cooking demonstrations.
Open 7 days a week (Mon-Fri 9:00 to 16:00, Sat & Sun 9:00 to 14:00), the Oakhurst tasting room is a must do for anyone visiting the Tulbagh area.
