The 10th annual edition of the SA Olive Awards saw 91 different olive oils entered into the competition, a significant increase over the 76 entries last year. This reflects an improved harvest when compared to last year’s unusually low yield. This is fantastic in the international context, seeing as two mega-producers, Spain and Italy, both experienced disastrous harvests this year.
There were 19 gold, 60 silver and 10 bronze awards given this year. Like last year, this low number of gold awards does not necessarily reflect a drop in the general production standard, but rather the necessary strictness and expertise of the judging panel itself under the guidance of international tutor, taster and scientific advisor Mauro Amelio.
De Rustica was the top achiever on the night, receiving 3 gold and 2 silver awards.
